Support the Critical Languages Program

Founded in 1988, The University of Arizona Critical Languages Program has grown from four Hungarian students in one class to over 200 students enrolled in 12 languages.

Since 1996, we have developed 14 interactive multimedia textbooks for less commonly taught languages. In 2009, we published Beginning Kurmanji Kurdish, Intermediate Ukrainian, and Advanced Turkish. They are available in DVD-ROM format and on the web.

CLP is committed to giving students unique skills and opportunities. Help us continue by giving online.

How can CLP utilize your support?

  • Scholarships We continue to make scholarships available to select number of students each semester.
  • Improving Facilities In the last few years CLP has added four new classrooms to keep pace with our burgeoning enrollment, and last year we upgraded computers in all nine classrooms.
  • Keeping Up with Technology Your donations will help us to upgrade our classrooms, expand our video communication capabilities, and expand offerings to outside students.
  • Support and Administrative Staff CLP has always been instructionally self-supporting from fees. But other staff and resources are needed to keep going, and the state budget situation makes this need more acute than ever.
  • Materials Development We also produce multimedia courseware for less commonly taught languages. We finished three titles in 2009, and we are continually working to expand available materials for less commonly taught languages.
